Estimator checklist
Review scale, scope, revision, and assumptions before quantities enter the estimate.
A construction takeoff review checklist for validating PDF calibration, plan revisions, scope boundaries, quantities, marked plans, and estimating assumptions.
1. Verify the source and scale
Confirm the project, sheet number, issue date, addenda, drawing revision, and whether different viewports use different scales. Calibrate against a labeled dimension and spot-check a second known length.
- Correct drawing revision
- Known-dimension calibration
- Independent scale spot-check
2. Review measurement scope
Define the assembly, inclusions, exclusions, openings, alternates, phasing, and drawing references. Inspect boundaries and count symbols visually on the marked plan.
- Scope definition
- Openings and deductions
- Alternate and phase labels
3. Approve the estimating handoff
Reconcile units and totals, document waste and conversion assumptions separately, retain the marked plan and quantity schedule, and record the authorized reviewer before pricing.
- Unit and total reconciliation
- Marked-plan and CSV retention
- Reviewer signoff
Frequently asked questions
Should waste be included in measured quantities?
Keep raw measured quantities distinct from waste, lap, yield, package rounding, and productivity assumptions so reviewers can see how the estimate was derived.
How should plan revisions be handled?
Treat a new revision or addendum as a new source state, identify affected sheets, remeasure changed scope, and preserve the prior marked plan for audit comparison.
